PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus with a removable optical unit for facilitating operation of a power source of an imaging apparatus body by operating the power source of the imaging apparatus body without operating a power source switch. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: an imaging apparatus body 2; a lens unit 3 (optical unit) for removably mounted to the imaging apparatus body 2; a mounting detector D1 for detecting the mounting of the lens unit 3 to the imaging apparatus body 2; and a system controller 22 (control device) for switching on the power source of the imaging apparatus body 2 by detecting the mounting of the lens unit 3 to the imaging apparatus body 2 by the mounting detector D1. The system controller 22 switches off the power source of the imaging apparatus body 2 in a state in which the mounting of the lens unit 3 to the imaging apparatus body 2 by the mounting detector D1 is not detected.
