PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting element capable of executing quick and highly sensitive measurement, and a simple manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: This detecting element of the present invention is a detecting element contacting with gas or a liquid to detect a physical quantity or a chemical quantity. The detecting element has a base material having two main faces, and a detecting part formed on at least the one main face of the base material and constituted of a fiber.
