PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomass fuel not only having simply excellent storage property, transporting property, handling property, etc., and an energy amount, but also solving the problem of smell as much as possible, and thereby not only simply being used as a heat source in the vicinity of a waste-treating facilities or sludge-treating facilities, but also utilizable as a part of the fuel (partial alternative fuel) or as an auxiliary fuel in a cement factory, coal thermal power plant, etc., and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This biomass fuel has the particle or granular form of a biomass-granulated material having 0.1 to 10 mm particle diameter and≤10 mass% water content and produced by using organic waste materials as raw materials, and a smell-blocking coating layer for covering the above biomass-granulated material. Also, the method for producing the biomass fuel of which the surface is covered by the smell-blocking coating, is provided by producing the particle-formed or granular biomass-granulated material having 0.1 to 10 mm particle diameter and≤10 mass% water content and coat-treating the surface of the biomass-granulated material with a coating material.
