PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multimedia information selecting apparatus capable of easily and accurately selecting a musical piece or sound corresponding to a sewing pattern and moving images and still images further, and a sewing machine provided with the multimedia information selecting apparatus. SOLUTION: Multimedia information is sectioned into a plurality of categories and stored. Also, category information for selecting the multimedia information is added beforehand to each of respective embroidery data and stored. Then, when one of the embroidery data is selected by the user, the category information added to the selected embroidery data is read (S1), the multimedia information belonging to the category specified by the category information is selected, and the multimedia information to be actually reproduced from the selected multimedia information and the order of reproduction are determined (S2).
