Provided are a display element having a plurality of display units overlaid, an electronic paper using the display element, an electronic terminal device using the electronic paper, a display system using the electronic terminal device, and a display element image processing method. It is possible to provide a display element capable of obtaining a display image of an excellent display quality and improving user-friendliness, an electronic paper using the display element, an electronic terminal device using the electronic paper, and a display system using the electronic terminal device. A liquid crystal display element (1) includes: a G display unit (6g) as a first display unit; R, B display units (6r, 6b) as a second and a third display unit having a display region overlaid on the G display unit (6g) and arranged to correspond to the G display unit (6g); and a display control circuit (29) which performs a control so that a reset process for shifting the display regions to the same display state is performed on the G display unit (6g) before starting a reset process of the R, B display units (6r, 6b).
