PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte for an electric double layer capacitor having high fire-retardant properties, cycle characteristics and the like. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte for the electric double layer capacitor contains: a nonaqueous solvent, containing an annular phosphazene compound expressed by a general formula (I), namely (NPR<SP>1</SP><SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>[in the formula, R<SP>1</SP>indicates a halogen element, an alkoxy group, or an aryloxy group independently, and n indicates 3-4], and a difluorophosphoric acid ester compound expressed by a general formula (II) [in the formula, R<SP>2</SP>indicates an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkenyl group, an alkoxy group-substituted alkyl group, or an aryl group]; an alkyne compound expressed by a general formula (III): R<SP>3</SP>-C≡C-R<SP>4</SP>[in the formula, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>indicate hydrogens, an alkyl group having 1-6 carbons, an alkenyl group having 2-3 carbons, or an aryl group independently], respectively; and a supporting salt.
