A liquid crystal medium or MLC, IPS, TN or STN display devices is provided to realize a high clearing point, rapid response time, low rotational viscosity, high dielectric anisotropy and a low threshold voltage. A liquid crystal medium comprises at least one compound represented by the following formula 1. In formula 1, R0 is C1-C15 halogen-substituted or non-substituted alkyl or alkoxy radical, wherein at least one CH2 of the radical is optionally substituted with -C=C-, -CF2O-, -CH=CH-, -O-, -CO-O- or -O-CO- in such a manner that oxygen atoms are not directly bound to each other; X0 is F, Cl, CN, SF5, SCN, NCS, or C6 or lower halogenated alkyl, halogenated alkenyl, halogenated alkoxy or halogenated alkenyloxy radical; and each of Y1-Y7 independently represents H or F. |
