<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device having excellent reliability and optical characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting device includes an insulating substrate, a light emitting element placed on an upper surface side of the insulating substrate, a first recessed opening recessed toward the bottom surface side from the upper surface side other than a region where the light emitting device is placed, and a protective element accommodated within the first recessed opening. The light emitting device is characterized in that the first recessed opening is sealed with a light reflecting member that can reflect the light from the light emitting element and the light reflecting member and the light emitting element are covered with a translucent member for transmitting the light from the light emitting element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
