PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable transmission ratio steering unit improving operability. SOLUTION: The variable transmission ratio steering unit 1-1 comprises: a steering wheel 2 is supported to be rotatable around a rotational shaft 3, and supported to be rockable around an rocking shaft in rotary motion; a steering angle sensor 6 detecting a steering angleθr of the steering wheel 2; an rocking angle sensor 5 detecting an rocking angle of the steering wheel 2; a transmission ratio calculation part 164 calculating a transmission ratio T based on the detected steering angleθr; a transmission ratio correction part 165 correcting the calculated transmission ratio T by a correction coefficient K which is calculated on the basis of the detected rocking angleθs; and steering wheel steering angle control means (a transmission ratio change device 10, and a steering wheel steering angle control part 166) controlling steering angles of the steering wheel for right and left front wheels to be steered, based on the corrected transmission ratio T.
