PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing simply and in high yield a ladder type polysilsesquioxane of a high-molecular weight. SOLUTION: The method for producing the ladder type polysilsesquioxane of this invention comprises: (1) a process in which a silane compound which has a hydrolyzable group or a hydroxy group is hydrolyzed by adding it to a solution for hydrolysis containing water and a catalyst; (2) a process which adds an organic solvent which forms an azeotrope with water into the solution obtained in the process (1); (3) a process which carries out heating and reflux flow of the solution obtained in the process (2); and (4) a process which removes water from the solution obtained in the process (3) by an azeotropic distillation.
