Provided are an optical fiber cutting method and an optical fiber cutting apparatus, by which an optical fiber coat removal step is eliminated and an optical fiber can be easily cut. The optical fiber cutting apparatus is provided with clamps (11a, 11b) for holding an optical fiber (30), which includes a glass (31) and a coat (32), on the both sides of a cut-planned area (CT); a disc-like blade member (12), which moves in a direction orthogonally intersecting with an axial line of the optical fiber (30) at the cut-planned area (CT) to cut the coat (32), and scratches the glass (31); and a skid (20) for pressing the cut-planned area (CT) with a prescribed pressure from the opposite side to the blade member (12) at the time of cutting the coat (32) and at the time of scratching the glass (31). A groove (22) is formed along the sliding direction of the blade member (12), at the leading end of the skid (20).
