<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device given shielding functions and can be made small in thickness. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device has a liquid crystal, interposed in between two substrates. In the liquid crystal device, a reflecting polarizing layer equipped with a plurality of first metal reflecting films which are formed in parallel with each other with a predetermined gap in between, is disposed on the outside surface of at least one substrate of the two substrates. The plurality of first metal reflecting films of the reflecting polarizing layer are electrically grounded.
