PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external preparation for the skin, producible with little deterioration of rhododendrol or a derivative thereof having effects for suppressing the formation of melanin at the preparation, and sufficiently exhibiting the functions of the preparation. SOLUTION: The external preparation for the skin contains (a) the rhododendrol represented by general formula (1) (wherein, R is a hydrogen atom, a 2-20C acyl group, or a group selected from residues of monosaccharides and disaccharides) or a derivative thereof, and (b) an amphipathic polymer.
