A hologram recording/reproducing device (100) includes a spatial light modulator (112) for spatially modulating a light flux and an objective lens (106) for collecting an object light and a recording reference light onto a recording medium, thereby performing information hologram recording. The spatial light modulator (112) is controlled by a control device which generates a two-dimensional digital pattern formed by n first subsets consisting of 16 elements corresponding to information. The first subset includes four sets of a second subset. Each of the second subsets has four elements. The control device sets one of the elements constituting the second subsets in three sets of the four sets of the second subsets to a first state; and sets the three elements to a second state. Moreover, the control device sets the four elements constituting the second subsets of the remaining one set of the second subsets to a second state.
