PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a content of digital data broadcast in a more readable manner for viewers than original content quality by generating characters in the content in a size in compliance with a panel of a receiver and a resolution of signals when displaying the content on a high resolution receiver. SOLUTION: A scalable font generating portion 14 generates a scalable font in compliance with a screen aspect ratio in a required screen display mode for letters or characters contained in a received signal which are assigned with respective character codes. An OSD display portion 11 for characters draws letters or characters in compliance with the screen aspect ratio in the required screen display mode by using character codes separated from the broadcast signal and the generated scalable font, and combines them which are drawn with scaled image data.
