The method involves heating a heating unit (100) for shrinking a heat shrink tube for a protection junction of fiber-optic cables that splice with one another. A splicing process for splicing additional fiber-optic cables is interrupted during heating of the heating unit. The splicing process is continued after heating the heating unit. The heating unit is preheated to a temperature after activating the heating unit. The splicing process is interrupted during preheating the heating unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for splicing of fiber-optic cables.
