PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein it is necessary for a conventional maximum likelihood detection method (MLD) to perform a large amount of calculation on square sums or the square roots of the square sums and a circuit scale and a processing amount become enormous, when the calculations are to be realized by processing using an electronic circuit or a DSP. SOLUTION: Without having to carry out the calculation of square sums or square roots of the square sums, required for calculating the distance between a received symbol and an estimated symbol, the distances among the symbols, are calculated by simplified calculation based on bit-shift processing, addition and subtraction, and the circuit scale or the processing amount for obtaining the maximum likelihood symbol is reduced.
