PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent lamp equipped with a translucent discharge envelope having a bent part which is comparatively strong to an impact from outside and in which the coolest part of a desired temperature is formed. SOLUTION: In the fluorescent lamp 1, the bent part 11 in which a discharge passage is folded back on the tip part of at least one pair of straight tube parts 1a, 1b is formed in parallel. In this bent part 11, at a site in which a width dimension of a direction orthogonal to a juxtaposed direction is smaller than the width dimension of the tip of the straight tube part of a direction in which the pair of the straight tube parts 1a, 1b are juxtaposed and in which a gradually decreasing part 14 to become smaller as it goes to the tip and the pair of the straight tube parts 1a, 1b are connected, a connecting part 12 formed so that a protruding length to the tip side becomes smaller than that of the gradually decreasing part 14 is formed. This is equipped with a slender translucent discharge envelope in which the end part of the base end side is sealed, a pair of electrodes sealed in both ends of the translucent discharge envelope, a phosphor layer formed on an inner face side of the translucent discharge envelope, and a discharge medium containing mercury and a rare gas sealed inside the translucent discharge envelope.
