PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hybrid AF system focusing device for achieving more ensured focusing in contrast AF, and to provide a camera equipped with the focusing device. SOLUTION: The focusing device includes: a focus estimation value calculating means for calculating a focus estimation value on the basis of contrast information of an output signal from an imaging device for imaging an object image through a photographing lens; a contrast system focusing means for focusing on the object based on the focus estimation value; a focus detection means different from the contrast system focusing means; an area judgement means for judging whether or not the focus detection area obtained by the contrast system focusing means is coincident with the focus detection area obtained by the focus detection means; and a control means for changing the driving range of the photographing lens of the contrast system focusing means based on the judgement result in the case of focusing by the contrast system focusing means after focusing by the focus detection means.
