An allyl ether, defined as an ether containing the <FORM:0916566/IV (b)/1> moiety which may form part of a ring, is prepared by reacting a diallyl ether with an alcohol in the presence as catalyst of a cuprous salt and of an acid co-catalyst. Specified acid co-catalysts include those of the parent Specification and also hydrochloric and the same types of alcohols are specified. Proportions of reactants may be as in the parent Specification. Examples describe the preparation of allyl n-butyl ether, allyl 2-butoxyethyl ether, and allyl 2-chloroethyl ether. Many other allyl ethers are specified including p-nitrocinnamyl isooctyl ether.
|
