An LSU and an image forming apparatus having the same are provided to enable a separation prevention unit to be arranged in the upper part of a rotation axis to prevent a polygon motor assembly from being separated from a casing to the axis direction of the rotation axis, thereby preventing the separation of the polygon motor assembly from the casing and the malfunction of the polygon motor assembly. A polygon motor assembly(20) has a polygon mirror(21) and a polygon motor(23). The polygon mirror is rotated around a rotation axis and scans light in a predetermined direction, and the polygon motor drives the polygon mirror. A casing(30) contains the polygon motor assembly. A separation prevention unit(40) is arranged in the upper part of the rotation axis to prevent the polygon motor assembly from being separated from the casing to the axis direction of the rotation axis.
