<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a framework for promoting interaction between various platforms in a communication network. <P>SOLUTION: An infrastructure is provided for connecting business with customers, suppliers and trading partners. Under this infrastructure, a plurality of companies exchange information and services with one another using self-defined machine-readable documents (e.g., XML type documents). Documents (BID) describing documents to be exchanged are sent on the Internet, or communicated to members of the network. The business interface definitions (BID) notify potential trading partners the services the company offers and the documents to use when communicating with such services.
