PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital signal processor for making a variable length instruction with arbitrary bit length including only necessary control information processable, and for reducing the capacity of a program memory. SOLUTION: A reading control part 50 reads data including a variable length instruction from a program memory 10. A control information extraction part 60 extracts each control information configuring an instruction from data read from a program memory 10. In this case, the presence/absence of following control information is decided based on the content of previously extracted control information for every instruction, and all control information configuring the instruction is extracted from the read data, and supplied to an arithmetic processing part 30.
