PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent for a liquid crystal display element, improving the problem of long-term reliability, with respect to electric characteristics accompanied by ionic density and variations with time of the ion density, and to provide a liquid crystal alignment layer, formed by using the agent, and to provide a liquid crystal display element having the layer. SOLUTION: One or more kinds of polymers, selected from among polyamic acid and its derivatives, an alkenyl-substituted nadimide compound and a specified heterocyclic compound are compounded in a liquid crystal-aligning agent, which is formed into a film and baked to produce a liquid crystal alignment layer.
