PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the time for setup processing may be increased when no transparent information is detected in an optical disk having watermark information recorded therein. SOLUTION: In detecting the watermark information, during set-up, the number of retries is limited even when a detection fails, and weighting of retry is changed so as to detect the watermark information when it is identified that the watermark information is surely recorded.
