PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer apparatus which can newly define a request command by a simple constitution and achieve data transfer having the new highest priority, in an existing communication standard. SOLUTION: The data transfer apparatus 11 based on a communication standard of IEEE 1394b defines the request command of an "Express" having the new and highest priority and defines external transmission right requesting signals RQ 1a and RQ 1b to define priority to the request command newly. Each port decoder of 14a and 14b encodes conversion requesting signals X 1a and X 1b which are different from the other request command with regard to the external transmission right requesting signals RQ 1a and RQ 1b to the request command. A determination circuit 16 is provided with a priority determination table 40 which determines the conversion requesting signals X 1a and X 1b to the request command as a command having the highest priority.
