PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing device of a video image which can efficiently correspond new formats. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing device records the video image in a recording medium, and reproduces it. It is provided with an imaging means for creating video image data; a first processing means which corresponds to a first recording format for processing the video image data from the imaging means; a second processing means which corresponds to a second recording format for processing the video image data from the imaging means; a memory means which stores processing programs for the first and the second processing means; and a mediation means which is positioned between the first and the second processing means and the memory means to control access from the first and the second processing means to the memory means.
