PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soil cleaning method capable of reducing the amount of water consumed in a rinsing treatment of soil and making a soil cleaning apparatus compact, and a soil cleaning apparatus that employs the method. SOLUTION: The soil cleaning apparatus 10 is constituted of a mixer 16 for mixing contaminated soil with a cleaning liquid and a classifying/rinsing device 18 comprised of a sifter 30 that sifts the mixed soil into coarse soil particles and fine soil particles and a water spray means for intermittently spraying water onto the coarse soil particles on the sifter 30 to carry out the rinsing treatment.
