AGITATOR AND AGITATION METHOD

A stirrer equipped with a bottom paddle exhibiting good stirring characte ristics even in a layer flow region of low Re number, and a stirring method. The stirrer comprises a rotating shaft arranged in the center of a vertical tubular churning tank rotatably from the outside thereof, and a planar stir ring blade constituted of a bottom paddle formed in a shape along the bottom wall face of the tank such that its lower edge is separated a predetermined gap therefrom and provided, at a position displaced by a predetermined dist ance upward from the lower edge, with a portion allowing communication betwe en the front side and the rear side, the stirring blade being fixed to the r otating shaft so as to extend therefrom toward the tank side wall face with the lower edge kept close to the bottom wall face of the tank; and the stirr ing method stirs material in the churning tank using that stirrer.
