PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an asymmetric substituted phosphinic acid, a method for producing the same and the use of the same. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an asymmetric substituted phosphinic acid of formula (I): R<SB>1</SB>R<SB>2</SB>C(OH)-P(=O)(OX)-C(OH)R<SB>3</SB>R<SB>4</SB>, (in the formula, X is hydrogen, R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>, R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>are the same or different and are each hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl, aryl and/or alkaryl, provided that the R<SB>1</SB>R<SB>2</SB>C(OH)- group and -C(OH)R<SB>3</SB>R<SB>4</SB>group are always different), and the invention also relates to a method for producing the same and the use of the same.
