PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linking gap detecting device and method quickly and accurately detecting a linking gap part of an optical recording medium. SOLUTION: A light beam is radiated to an information recording track of the optical recording medium, and reflected light of the light beam radiated to the information recording track is received to generate a light detection signal, and a synchronous signal is detected from the light detection signal, and it is determined whether the existing interval of the synchronous signal is outside a predetermined interval range or not, and a linking gap is detected on the basis of the determination result.
