PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error correcting method improving encoding efficiency in a hologram memory recording and reproducing device of two dimensional code. SOLUTION: Bits in the same positions of respective code words are extracted as one bit string respectively with respect to the prescribe number of two dimensional code words (step 101), error correction encoding is applied to each bit string other than one bit string in the two dimensional code word block and a plurality of parity bits are generated (step 102), the two dimensional code word corresponding to the parity bit is two-dimensionally demodulated and the plurality of parity bits are generated, error correction is applied to the bit string being error-correction-encoded in the two dimensional code word block using the plurality of parity bits, and error correction is performed using a two dimensional encoding rule for bit strings to which the error correction encoding is not applied in the error correction encoding step on the basis of the result (step 203).
