PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take radical measures against a damper position error by detecting the damper position error to issue a warning and to take emergency measures against the damper position error of a total enthalpy heat exchanger until the radical measures are taken after issuing the warning at the occurrence of the damper position error, in the total enthalpy heat exchanger and its control method. SOLUTION: The total enthalpy heat exchanger comprises an air supply device; an exhaust device; a heat exchanger provided between the air supply device and exhaust device to exchange heat between air flowing indoors and air exhausted outdoors; a damper allowing outdoor air taken in by the air supply device, to flow indoors through one of a first passage passing through the heat exchanger and a second passage by-passing the heat exchanger; and a control part comparing actual heat exchange efficiency in a present operation mode and predicted heat exchange efficiency on whether they coincide with each other, to determine whether the position error of the damper has occurred.
