PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrothermal instantaneous water heater which can control the temperature and flow rate of hot water to be supplied with high accuracy, even in a simple structure without using a volt meter or a flow meter, has a space-saving structure, and is low in cost, and to provide a method of controlling the same. SOLUTION: The method of controlling the electrothermal instantaneous water heater provided with a feed water pipe line, a flow rate adjusting valve, a heating section consisting of a water temperature sensor and an electrothermal heater, and a control device, has the following steps. In the voltage calculating step (3), when the flow rate adjusting valve is closed and water is heated over a predetermined still water heating time period, a supply voltage is calculated based on a heat capacity of the heating section, a water temperature elevation value, and a heat release to the outside. In the still water heating step (4), the electrothermal heater is controlled based on the calculated supply voltage. In the voltage re-calculating step (6), when the flow rate adjusting valve is opened and the water is heated over a predetermined flow water heating time period, the supply voltage is calculated again based on a heat capacity of the heating section, a water temperature elevation value, a heat release to the outside, and a target flow rate.
