A method of monitoring equipment (102) includes detecting a electronic equipment tag (103) associated with a piece of secured equipment (102) in a detection field (104); detecting a personnel tag (101) identifying a person (100) in the detection field (104); and determining if the person (100) identified by the detected personnel tag (101) is authorized to use equipment (102) corresponding to the detected equipment tag (103).
