The method involves a second receiver component pre-processing messages received by a first receiver component and using a window mechanism to influence the number of messages that a connected message source can send without acknowledgment. The overload protection is conducted by the second component influencing the window size depending on the overload information of the first component. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: an overload protection arrangement in the receiver of a communications system.
