A closing ring (23) for a container and lid combination for securing the lid to the container includes a ring body (24) having first and second free ends to be drawn together in order to secure the lid to the container. A link clevis (32) and a lever clevis (34) are welded to the free ends. A link (33) is pivotally connected to the link clevis. A lever (35) is pivotally connected to the lever clevis. The link is connected to the lever at a third pivot connection that travels in a lever slot. The linkage arrangement is completed by the addition of a pair of closing links (36) that are pivotally connected together and connected to the lever at the lever clevis location and to the lever at the third pivot connection.
