PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupling method for obtaining 4-(substituted phenyl) azoresorcinol in high selectivity, and to provide a method for producing a 4- aminoresorcinol by reducing the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing a 4-aminoresorcinol or its salt comprises allowing a substituted aniline of formula 2 to react with an alkali metal nitrite in an aqueous acid solution, allowing the produced substituted phenyldiazonium chloride of formula 3 to react with resorcinol, and subsequently subjecting the produced 4-(substituted phenyl)azoresorcinol of formula 1 to a hydrogenolysis reaction using a metal catalyst. Therein, R is hydrogen atom, a 1-10C alkyl, a 1-10C alkoxy, a halogen atom, sulfo group, cyano group, carboxyl group or a 2-11C carboalkoxy group; (n) is an integer of 0-5; X is Cl, Br OSO3 H or OPO3 H2 . |
