A lock for an access flap 2, eg letterbox or catflap, preferably includes a first member 11 fast with the inside face of the flap 2 and a second member 16, 17, 18 attached to a structural member of the door which engages with the first member in either a sliding or screwing manner. Restraints may be provided to prevent accidental movement of the lock. The lock may have anti-tamper measures and an alarm activated by forcing or breaking of the lock. A timer is preferably used to lock automatically lock the letterbox at night and in the evening. The lock is suitable for filling to existing single and double flap letterboxes and to new designs of letterboxes. A method of use is also provided. |
