Image processing is carried out accurately on image data obtained by a digital camera, and a high-quality reproduced image is obtained. Scene inference means 23 infers a photography scene based on photography information T attached to the image data S 0 and the image information M. Information H on the photography scene is input to image processing means 25 where image processing conditions G in accordance with the scene information H are read from a memory 24 . Image processing is carried out on the image data S 0 according to the image processing conditions G and processed image data S 1 are obtained.
