A revolutionary level where, despite a simple construction of the level, an installation base can be reliably fixed in a sliding manner to a device case by simple work, and the level is excellent in mass-productivity and cost. In the level, a facing end (2a) of the installation base (2) is pressed against the inner surface of the device case (3) to fix the installation base (2) in a pressing manner to the device case (3). The installation body (2) is constructed such that a first section (2A) pressed against one inner surface of the device case (3) and a second section (2B) pressed against another inner surface, the surface facing the one surface, of the device case (3) are assembled so as to be slidable relative to each other via a slide mechanism (S). The slide mechanism (S) has assembly contact surfaces (5, 6) that are slope guide surfaces (5, 6) between the first section (2A) and the second surface (2B). The slope guide surfaces (5, 6) are made to be in contact with each other so that the second section (2B) is slidable relative to the first section (2A) in the direction of the slope. The overall length of the installation body (2) constructed from the first section (2A) and the second section (2B) is variable. As a result, the installation body (2) can be fixed in a pressing manner to the device case (3) by finely adjusting the overall length of the installation body (2).
