A method for controlling an elevator driving converter system at an abnormal power state is provided to drop a DC voltage and protect a device by distributing the DC voltage into a D-axis current and a Q-axis current of a motor. A method for controlling an elevator driving converter system at an abnormal power state includes the steps of: sensing a three-phase input power; and selectively operating switches of a switching unit(260) when the sensed input power is zero. A D-axis current and a Q-axis current are calculated by a following expression 1, Pin=VdId + VqIq, wherein the Q-axis current is maintained as zero since the Q-axis current is a torque current. A charged energy is consumed by controlling and outputting the D-axis current. A power supply unit(200) supplies a power. A sensing unit(210) is connected to the power supply unit, and senses a power provided to the power supply unit. A filter unit(220) filters and provides the power outputted from the power supply unit to a rectifying circuit unit. A bidirectional rectifying circuit unit(240) transfers the power transmitted though the filter unit to a motor through the switching unit. A switching control unit has D-axis and Q-axis current control units which are coupled to the sensing unit and provide the D-axis current and the Q-axis current for controlling the switching unit based on a power supply state.
