The invention relates to a compound of formula I: where: X is equal to NR⁵; R⁴ is equal to a C1-C12 alkyl group, aryl group, aralkyl group or cycloalkyl group. R¹, R², R³, R⁵ are equal to an H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl of heterocyclic group; where R¹, R², and R⁵ or R¹, R², and R³ may together form a heterocyclic group. The invention also relates to a method for the preparation of this compound by reaction of an amino compound with an alkanol hemiacetal. The invention also relates to amino-aldehyde resins containing this compound and the application of these resins in adhesive compositions, laminates, shaped articles and transparent coatings.
