A water purifier is provided to enable a user to recognize easily the exchange time of a water purification filter and the state of a pipe, and a method for notifying the exchange time of a water purification filter of the water purifier is provided. A water purifier includes: a purified water quantity detecting part(10) for sensing a flow amount passing through a water purification filter; a flow rate sensing part(24) for sensing a flow rate of the flow amount; a control part(30) for comparing the detected purified water quantity with a preset reference value to determine the exchange time of the water purification filter, and judging the state of a pipe by the sensed flow rate; and a display part(40) for displaying the states of the water purification filter and the pipe according to a control operation of the control part. The water purifier additionally includes a sensor(60) for sensing the proximity of a user during driving of the water purifier. The display includes at least two light-emitting diodes, and a switching device switched on or off to supply or cut off a power source applied to the light-emitting diodes according to the control operation of the control part.
