An apparatus and a method for controlling a crown of a hot rolling mill are provided to uniformize crown in a length direction by sequentially executing feedforward and feedback controls. An apparatus for controlling a crown includes a set-up unit(101), a crown measuring unit, a lock-on set unit, a crown lock-on unit(111), length direction crown controlling units(112,122), and a manipulation calculating unit(130). The set-up unit outputs first manipulation quantity as target manipulation quantity of a rolling mill. The crown measuring unit measures the crown of an objective rolling mill. The lock-on set unit sets a timing for lock-on of the measured crown. The crown lock-on unit memorizes a crown of the objective rolling mill as one of inlet and outlet lock-on crowns based on the set timing. The length direction crown controlling units output first compensation quantity to compensate for the first manipulation quantity, so as to reduce deviation between the measured crown and the lock-on crown. The manipulation calculating unit outputs second manipulation quantity based on the first manipulation quantity and first compensation quantity.
