A storage device and a data transfer method are provided to include a plurality of storage units having a different data transfer rate in a network while restricting increase of a circuit scale. A controller(220) controls a target of data read/written to a plurality of storage units(400-1~400-3). A PBC(Port Bypass Circuit)(300) transfers the data to the storage unit of the target in a fixed data transfer rate by the controller. A detector(510) detects the data transfer rate of the storage unit of the target receiving the data. A converter(520) converts the data by accumulating the data transferred in the detected data transfer rate and the fixed data transfer rate. The controller restores the data to be written to the storage unit having the lower data transfer rate than the fixed data transfer rate to the storage unit having the same data transfer rate as the fixed data transfer rate when the data accumulated in the converter reaches a predetermined amount.
