<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that it is necessary in a conventional method to continuously monitor a deterioration state of each pixel and computational complexity and a system scale increase when a screen size becomes larger. <P>SOLUTION: A deterioration index calculating device is proposed which calculates a deterioration index indicating the progress in deterioration difference for each frame or each of plurality of frames based on frequency distribution information on grayscale values constituting a frame image. An image retention inhibiting device is proposed which determines whether an accumulated value of deterioration indexes calculated by the deterioration index calculating device exceeds a determination threshold, and decreases the contrast ratio of display luminance by controlling driving conditions of a display device or gradation-converts a video signal supplied to the display device so that the contrast ratio of the display luminance is decreased when the accumulated value of the deterioration indexes exceeds the determination threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
