PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine translation device having improved translation accuracy.

SOLUTION: The machine translation device is equipped with: an example storage section 123 where examples of a source language and examples of a target language obtained by translating the example of the source language are stored while made to correspond to each other; an input receiving section 101 which receives an input of a speech utterance in source language; a first recognizing section 102 which speech-recognizes the received speech utterance as an arbitrary character string in source language; a second recognizing section 103 which speech-recognizes the received speech utterance as the most likelihood example of the source language among the examples of the source language stored in the example storage section 123; a similarity calculating section 105 which calculates the similarity between a first recognition result as the speech recognition result of the first recognizing section 102 and a second recognition result as the speech recognition result of the second recognizing section 103; and an example translating section 106 which translates the speech utterance by acquiring an example in target language corresponding to the second recognition result from the example storage section 123 when the calculated similarity is larger than a predetermined first threshold.
