PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrophotographic toner in which coarse particles hardly exist and capable of forming an image of high image quality in an image forming apparatus of an electrophotographic system and to provide an electrophotographic toner. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the electrophotographic toner by a wet process manufacturing process including a step of forming the colored resin particulates by putting the particles into an emulsified state or suspended state in an aqueous medium, and a sieving step for removing the coarse particles in the formed colored resin particulates, there are upper and lower two steps of screens in the sieving step, and when the mesh of the screen of the upper step is defined as W<SB>1</SB>and the mesh of the screen of the lower step as W<SB>2</SB>, the formula [1.2≤W1/W2≤1.7] is satisfied; in addition, the network of the screen of the lower step is plain-woven; more preferably, the mesh of the screen of the lower step is≤35μm, porosity is≥35% and the mesh of the screen of the upper step is≥30 um.
