PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a chloronitroso compound from a compound selected from an alkene and a cycloalkene in good operability and economically advantageously. SOLUTION: The method for producing a chloronitroso compound comprises mixing a mixture containing a compound selected from an alkene and a cycloalkene, a nitrite and water with hydrogen chloride at -4 to 20°C. In this method, hydrochloric acid is preferably used as hydrogen chloride and a 5-6C compound, more preferably 2-methyl-2-butene or 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene is used as the compound selected from an alkene and a cycloalkene.
